Gus and His Gang Wins Harvey over Red Colored Elegy, Solanin, Witchblade

posted on by Egan Loo

Gus and His Gang, First Second's collection of cowboy stories by French author Chris Blain, won the "Best American Edition of Foreign Material" category in the 2009 Harvey Awards over Seiichi Hayashi's Red Colored Elegy (Drawn and Quarterly), Inio Asano's Solanin (Viz Media), issues #11 and #12 of Yasuko Kobayashi and Kazasa Sumita's Witchblade Takeru (Top Cow/Image), and Jason's Pocket Full of Rain anthology (Fantagraphics Books). The awards were presented at Baltimore Comic-Con on Saturday.

Unlike the Eisner Awards and other awards in the North American comic book industry, the Harvey Awards are nominated and selected by the comic book professionals themselves. Red Colored Elegy, Solanin, Witchblade Takeru were the only manga in this year's nominations. Witchblade Takeru was previously nominated for last year's Harvey Awards in the same Best American Edition of Foreign Material category, but did not win.
