The game hardware and software giant Nintendo has announced that it will release the Nintendo 3DS, its tentatively named portable game console that is capable of displaying 3D images, by March 2011. The company emphasizes that the new console's "games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses." Nintendo is positioning the Nintendo 3DS as a successor to the Nintendo DS, the console series that sold 125 million units worldwide by the end of 2009. The new console will be capable of playing Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi software. More details will be announced in Los Angeles at the E3 convention, which will start on June 15.
