SMASH Announces Gundam Competition for BAKUC

The Sydney Manga and Anime Show has announced that they will be holding a competition to find the first Australian representative for the International Bandai Action Kit Universal Cup;

The BAKUC started in 2004 in many Asian countries like Japan, China and Indonesia. In 2007 they added America and this year they are adding Australia through this BAKUC sanctioned event. SMASH in conjunction with HobbyCo will be running two first divisions. Open category for over 15's and Junior catagory for under 14's. First place will receive a trip to Hong Kong representing Australia for the 2010 BAKUC finals.

The base rules are quite simple (rules available here.)

  • Open to any type of modification / scratch building, remodeling, diorama construction.
  • Use of commercial full resin or resin conversion kits is not permitted.
  • Entries mounted on a diorama base must be no larger than 50x50x50cm
  • Models must be made from original Bandai kits.
  • All grades and scales allowed
In summary, you need to start off with a original Bandai kit, you cannot add any resin components that you do not make yourself and if you are presenting your model in a diorama it cannot be any larger than half a square meter in size.
