Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Streaming on Google (Update 3)

posted on 2010-08-23 18:18 EDT
Google Videos presents all 119 minutes of Hayao Miyazaki's anime film classic

Update 2: ANN has removed the link to the video described below and has contacted Disney, the North American licensee of Studio Ghibli works, concerning the legitimacy of the video and similar videos with Ghibli content on Google Videos service. ANN is contacting Disney for the following reasons:

1. Ghibli and Disney have never authorized something like this in the past.
2. Google Video does not carry sourced content.
3. The video content was uploaded three years ago, but had never been publicized.

Update 3: Disney responded, "We do not have non-theatrical rights to this film so we do not have any
information on the [links] below." ANN is contacting Studio Ghibli next. Thank you to Chase Wang for arranging the correspondence.

The Google Videos service is streaming the entire 119-minute length of Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind anime film classic for free. The film is retroactively considered the first feature film of Studio Ghibli, although it was actually produced by the earlier studio Topcraft in 1984. It adapts Miyazaki's own manga of the same name and features a soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi, a composer who would work with Miyazaki on almost all of his later works.
