All You Need Is Kill Novel's Film Director Interviewed

Doug Liman says film based on Japanese novel will get all-American cast

Movie site ComingSoon.net has posted an interview with film director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) in which he briefly discussed his attachment to the live-action film adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill.

When asked about whether the film would star a Japanese cast due to its roots, Liman replied that the film would be "all American." He also said that the project was one of two he was "actively working on," but later said that as Mr. and Mrs. Smith led him to his most recent film, Fair Game, so is Fair Game leading him to All You Need Is Kill. The other project is an untitled film focused on private colonization of the moon.

Warner Bros. acquisition of the movie rights to All You Need Is Kill was announced in April. The novel, which features illustrations by Yoshitoshi ABe, was published in English by Viz Media on July 21, 2009.
