2nd Subbed Live-Action Gantz Showing in San Francisco

posted on by Egan Loo
Viz Cinema adds 2nd screening this Saturday at 9:45 p.m.

The Viz Cinema theater in San Francisco is adding a second English-subtitled screening for the live-action Gantz film at 9:45 p.m. this Saturday, February 19. The theater is located in the New People center in the city's Japantown district. The film's first screening on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. is already sold out, but there will be a rush line for last-minute empty seats.

The Gantz film adapts Hiroya Oku's popular manga of the same name. In it, actors Kazunari Ninomiya (Letters from Iwo Jima) and Ken'ichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Detroit Metal City) play two childhood friends who are accidently killed in a subway accident. They are resurrected to take on violent missions under the instructions of a mysterious black orb known as Gantz.

The movie had its worldwide premiere with the two stars last month when it debuted — with an English dub — in 334 theaters throughout the United States for one night only. The second of the planned films, Gantz: Perfect Answer, will open in Japan on April 23. There are currently no official release date announced for a North American premiere of the second film.
