Man Arrested for Uploading Manga, PSP Game via Share Program

posted on by Egan Loo

On May 17, police in Japan arrested a 33-year-old male company worker from Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture on suspicion of using the Share file-sharing software to upload manga and a PSP game online without the copyright holders' permission. According to the police, the man uploaded Square Enix's Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together PSP game around February 3 and Barasui's Strawberry Marshmallow manga around March 7.

The man allegedly was file-sharing five years ago with the earlier Winny program, and then switched to Share. The Association of Copyright for Computer Software said that the suspect uploaded games, pornographic images, films, anime, comics, and various other files. The man's confiscated computer reportedly had over 5,000 files available to upload onto Share. In addition to the copyright infringement charges, the man was arrested on suspicion of putting pornographic material on public display.
