ANNAU Convention Update 11/5 - 18/5

posted on by Georgia Blair
This week's news and updates on anime conventions in Australia and New Zealand. Conventions this week include SMASH, Manifest, Overload and Wai-Con.

There are many pieces of news and updates that come from Australia and New Zealand's myriad anime conventions so we here at ANN|AU have decided to try covering it in a weekly update. Upcoming cons, press releases and major announcements will still be reported individually, but the Convention Update covers news that may not otherwise be posted on ANN but is still of interest to those wishing to attend and participate!

If you have any feedback, or news we may have missed, please let us know through our forums or send us an email.

SMASH!: Eminence Orchestra's concert Memories of Fantasia will premiere The Last Goodbye, an original animation with accompanying music and vocals performed live by the orchestra. Preview images and concept sketches from the animation are available on the Sydney Manga and Anime Show (SMASH!) Facebook and Flickr accounts. Memories of Fantasia will be held after this year's SMASH! event, at the Sydney Convention Centre on July 16th. The concert will feature music from Studio Ghibli films and Square Enix video games, and SMASH has announced that special guests for the concert will be announced in the next few days.

Manifest: The Mecha Workshop at Manifest's one-day convention Minifest, being held on June 4th at the Ross House Association, will host a Gundam model kit mini-competition. Prizes will be awarded for the best out-of-box kit, best modified kit and best kit built on the day of the workshop. More information is available on the Manifest forums.

Overload: Overload's special international guest for this year's convention will be cosplayer YuRi Inaba, champion of the World Cosplay Summit in 2009. Overload will take place on the 23rd and 24th of July, at Hotel Pullman in Auckland, New Zealand.

Wai-Con: General meetings for planning the Perth convention will now be held on the fourth Sunday of every month, with the next meeting on May 22nd. There will be no general meeting in June as the Wai-Con committee will be at Supanova Perth.
