Japanese Box Office, May 14-15

Gaku, Gantz, Detective Conan, Shin-chan stay in top 10

The live-action film based on Shinichi Ishizuka's Gaku - Minna no Yama mountain-climbing manga dropped from #1 to #2 in its second weekend on both Kogyo Tsushinsha and Box Office Mojo's charts. According to Box Office Mojo, the film added the equivalent of US$2,352,612 on 315 screens for a new total of US$8,837,024.

Gantz: Perfect Answer, the second live-action film based on Hiroya Oku's Gantz manga, stayed at #3 in its fourth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. According to Box Office Mojo, it slipped from #2 to #3 and earned the equivalent of US$1,390,619 on 375 screens for a total of US$28,889,149.

Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence, the 15th anime film based on Gōshō Aoyama's Detective Conan manga, dropped from #2 to #4 in its fifth weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. The film also dropped from #3 to #4 on Box Office Mojo's chart and added US$1,276,686 more on 335 screens for a new total of US$34,574,575.

Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi o Yobu Ōgon no Spy Daisakusen, this year's film based on Yoshito Usui's Crayon Shin-chan comedy manga, fell from #5 to #7 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart, and dropped from #6 to #7 on Box Office Mojo's chart. In its fifth weekend, it added US$598,839 on 307 screens to its gross-to-date of US$13,438,154.

Tōfu Kozō, the 3D computer-animated film adaptation of the Tōfu Kozō Sugoroku-dōchū Furidashi novel by Natsuhiko Kyōgoku (Loups-Garous, Mōryō no Hako, Requiem from the Darkness), dropped from #9 to #11 in its third weekend with US$289,318 on 422 screens for a cumulative total of US$4,425,311.

OOO, Den-O, All Riders: Let's Go Kamen Riders, the film which celebrates the Toei movie company's 60th anniversary and the Kamen Rider franchise's 40th anniversary with all 28 Kamen Rider heroes and special guests, fell from #12 to #15 in its seventh weekend. It earned the equivalent of US$161,224 on 166 screens for a cumulative total of US$16,048,109.

Onigamiden (Legend of the Millennium Dragon), Hirotsugu Kawasaki and Studio Pierrot's film adaptation of a historical novel by Takafumi Takada, stayed at #16 #16 during its third weekend. The film earned US$32,184 on 79 screens for a total of US$880,406.

The stereoscopic 3D conversion of Kenji Kamiyama and Production I.G's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society is no longer listed on either chart.
