Warren Ellis Comments on Marvel Anime Publicity

posted on by Andrew Osmond
British comic artist says there's "nothing of his work" in Madhouse anime of Marvel superheroes.

British comic artist Warren Ellis has blogged about Marvel's publicity for its anime series, stressing that he had very little involvement with the final result. The MADHOUSE studio has animated four series based on Marvel characters: Iron Man, Wolverine, Blade and X-Men.

Ellis was responding to a recent Marvel press release published on the Comic Book Resources website. It describes Ellis as "guiding" the MADHOUSE series.

In Ellis's words: "I didn't write scripts, just [series] outlines that were adapted and expanded into scripts by Japanese writers. From what little I've seen of the end result, there's pretty much nothing of my work in them, and I'm not actually screen-credited in the Japanese releases."
