Netflix Launches in Britain

Netflix site lists anime titles including Afro Samurai, Stand Alone Complex and Haruhi Suzumiya film.

The U.S streaming service Netflix is launching in Britain on Monday January 9. According to the Financial Times newspaper, "Tens of thousands of hours of content will be available for streaming on internet-connected TVs, games consoles, smartphones and tablets for £5.99 a month." The Netflix anime page lists the following titles:

- Afro Samurai

- Afro Samurai: Resurrection(5 episodes)

- The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

- Ghost in the Shell 2.0

- Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society

- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (both seasons)

- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - The Laughing Man

- The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

- Gurren Lagann

- Macross II

- Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai

- Noein (24 episodes)

- Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles

- The Sky Crawlers

- Strait Jacket

- Tokko (13 episodes)

Other anime which can be found on the Netflix site at present include Summer Wars and Eureka 7 - Good Night Sleep Tight Young Lovers

According to a report in the Telegraph newspaper:

Reed Hastings, the chief executive of Netflix, is in the UK today [Monday January 9] and will formally announce the launch this morning in London and announce the monthly subscription cost of the UK version of the service. The US company has already signed UK-specific content deals with BBC Worldwide, Lionsgate UK and MGM films. More content partnerships are expected to be announced by Hastings today.
