Mardock Scramble U.K. Blu-ray/DVD to Contain Two Versions

posted on by Andrew Osmond
April 16 release of first film will contain both 15-rated version and also 18-rated Director's Cut.

Manga Entertainment has tweeted that its upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release of Mardock Scramble: The First Compression will contain two versions of the film, a theatrical cut and a Director's Cut. The two versions are rated as "15" and "18" respectively on the BBFC website. This means the actual release, passed uncut, will be "18," despite the current image on Amazon UK (pictured) showing a "12" rating. The BBFC lists the theatrical cut as running 62 minutes, and the Director's cut as 66 minutes. Both the Blu-ray and DVD go on sale on April 16.

In Mardock Scramble: The First Compression, a teenage prostitute named Rune Balot is caught in an explosion, then turned into an advanced cyborg. Balot takes on the worst of Mardock City's criminals as she looks for vengeance. Megumi Hayashibara voices Rune Balot, in a project directed by Susumu Kudo at the studio GoHands. Both the film and its sequel, Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion, were shown at cinemas around the U.K. last year.
