Anime of Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse novel to premiere next Sunday

The staff of the Total Eclipse anime revealed a three-minute preview during a special live event on Sunday, and then began streaming the preview.

The anime adapts the Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse novel, which is itself a spinoff of the 2006 visual novel software Muv-Luv Alternative from the adult game company Age. This side story follows the test pilots and mechanics in the United Nations Forces' Tactical Surface Fighter Testing Unit in Alaska.

The protagonist Yūya Bridges (voiced by Daisuke Ono) is a Japanese-American who is the Argos Test Team's main pilot for "XFJ Project," the initiative that is developing the newest Tactical Surface Fighter. Yui Takamura (Mai Nakahara) is the head of development for the project from the Japanese Empire's side.

Takayuki Inagaki (Desert Punk, Rosario + Vampire) is directing the project at the studios Ixtl x Satelight. Yumiko Hara (Baby Princess 3D Paradise 0 [Love]) is designing the characters.

The anime will premiere in Japan on July 1, and it will also premiere at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on the same day. Crunchyroll will stream the anime into several countries as it airs in Japan.
