Mappa's Toyota Ha:mo Concept Anime Short Streamed

Kids on the Slope studio animates car maker's vision of urban transportation

On Wednesday, the official Toyota YouTube channel began streaming the Ha:mo concept video that the anime studio MAPPA produced.

Toyota unveiled Ha:mo — short for Harmonious Mobility Network — in March of 2011 as its vision of future Intelligent Transport Systems for urban dwellers. People share green cars and use information technology to conserve energy, minimize their carbon footprint, and make commuting less stressful.

MAPPA, the studio established by Madhouse co-founder Masao Maruyama, created these anime shorts to depict the future that Ha:mo offers to people. In the concept anime's story, three childhood friends reunite to fulfill an old promise. The second video explains how Ha:mo helps the three on their journeys with hybrid and electric vehicles, public transit, and intelligent route planning.
