Anime shorts follow stamp mascot characters based on NHN's voice-chat/messaging app

The official channel for publisher Shogakukan began streaming the first episode of NHN Japan and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions' stamp-mascot anime series Line Offline Salaryman on January 9. The anime series is based on the mascot characters from NHN's LINE voice-chat/messaging app. The anime short is set in the fictional LINE Corporation with a motley crew of idiosyncratic workers. The first episode follows subsection head Moon (played by Toshiyuki Morikawa) as he interacts with coworkers while trying to find out if his visible nose hair is why everyone keeps staring at him.

The show's characters also include is the narcissistic section head and president's son James (Yūto Kazama), the quiet but kindhearted subsection head Brown (Nobuo Tobita), and the subordinate Connie (Aki Kanada) who is in an endless loop of yo-yo diets and weight gains. The show also stars Sachi Kokuryu as Jessica. Groove Mogi designed the original characters for the series, and Kiminori Tanoue is directing the show.

The characters from NHN's LINE voice-chat/messaging app are also inspiring the Character Times manga by Fujiminosuke Yorozuya in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine and the LINE Offline ~Bokura Zukan~ (LINE Offline - Our Illustrated Guide) four-panel, slice-of-life gag manga by Renjuro Kindaichi (Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, Haré+Guu) and the other members of Team.Kindaichi in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine. Character Times launched on January 9 and LINE Offline ~Bokura Zukan~ debuted on January 4.

The anime debuted on TV Tokyo on January 7 at 1:30 a.m. (effectively January 8 after midnight) and runs every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
