Otakon to Host Cowboy Bebop Director Shinichiro Watanabe

Samurai Champloo/Kids on the Slope helmer to attend Baltimore convention

Otakon announced on Wednesday that it will host director, screenwriter, and music producer Shinichiro Watanabe as a Guest of Honor at its August 9-11 convention in Baltimore.

Watanabe made his directorial debut on Macross Plus before helming the Cowboy Bebop television series in 1998, followed by Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. He also directed Samurai Champloo and last year's Kids on the Slope. He is currently working on an original television anime series with the studio BONES. He also produced the music in Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine and Michiko and Hatchin.

Watanabe joins the following previously announced guests: Anime Mirai producer Michihiko Suwa and director Yuzuru Tachikawa, voice actor Tomokazu Seki, singer Chiaki Ishikawa, novelist Kaoru Kurosaki, Japanese cultural writer Takamasa Sakurai, Sword Art Online designers Tetsuya Kawakami and Shingo Adachi, composer Yoko Kanno, hip-hop group Home Made Kazoku, singer T.M. Revolution, and MADHOUSE anime studio founder Masao Maruyama. The convention is also hosting voice actress Maile Flanagan and voice actor Vic Mignogna. Otakon is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Otakon 2013 will be held August 9­-11 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
