Also, full series of Daphne in the Brilliant Blue.

On Monday August 19, Manga Entertainment will release the live-action film version of Space Battleship Yamato [2010) on DVD and Blu-ray, based on the 40 year-old anime space opera. SMAP band member Takuya Kimura, who voiced the title character in Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle, leads the cast as Susumu Kodai. The film is directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who also made the box-office hit Always: Sunset on Third Street, a live-action version of a period postwar manga.

From the 'fetch' PR website: "Earth 2199; the human race has been forced underground as the Earth's surface is ravaged by an alien race known only as the Gamilas. As humanity struggles to hold on to the small pockets of life it has left; hope arrives in the form of a message from another home world. Humanity's fate will rest in the hands of crew of Space Battleship Yamoto as they venture into deepest space."

Also on Monday, MVM will release the full action/fanservice series Daphne in the Brilliant Blue (previously released in six separate volumes in 2008-9). In the future, heroine Maia is forced to take a job with the Nereides, a security and investigation company consisting of eccentric females in very scanty outfits.
