Revised Anime Encyclopedia Details

Plus details of Helen McCarthy's A Brief History of Manga, published this month.

Details of the upcoming third edition of The Anime Encyclopedia, written by Jonathan Clements and Helen McCarthy, have been posted on Clements' blog. The book will have 'over 1000 new entries, over 4000 updates and corrections, countless new arguments ended (and begun).'

It is scheduled for publication on December 16, and is available for pre-order in Amazon in both the UK and US. Amazon describes the book as a 1200-page hardback, with a British RRP of £72.48, although Amazon is currently discounting it to £57.88.

Clements and McCarthy co-wrote the two previous editions of the Anime Encyclopedia. Like the new version, they were both published by Stone Bridge Press. The first edition was published in 2001, and the second edition was published in 2006.

In addition, May 26 sees the publication of McCarthy's book A Brief History of Manga, also available for pre-order on Amazon. The site describes this as a 96-page hardcover book, published by ILEX. 'Filled with anecdotes, quotes, facts and figures, the title gives any manga fan a host of new areas to explore. Containing everything you need to know, from Akira to Mazinger Z , it is fully illustrated with colour examples of manga and photos of the creators behind them. It also has a quick reference timeline running throughout, featuring key publication dates, historical events and the births and deaths of the biggest names in manga art.'

Some sample pages and artwork from A Brief History of Manga can be seen on the Amazon page.
