Nintendo began streaming a 90-second English trailer for the Wii U and 3DS versions of the One Piece: Unlimited World Red game on Monday.
The latest installment in the One Piece Unlimited series will have a new One Piece Battle Coliseum mode (One Piece Battle Colosseum in Japanese) which "will closely resemble the latest episodes of One Piece and bring heart-pounding action and glory to the ring as pirates fight relentlessly to earn top rankings." The mode will have a total of 20 playable characters, including Trafalgar Law, Hancock, Buggy, Crocodile, Jinbei, Portegas D. Ace, Akainu, Edward Newgate, Shanks, Donquixote Doflamingo, and Fujitora.
The new multi-platform version is arriving in North America on July 8. The PS3, PS Vita, and 3DS versions will be available in physical retail packages, while the Wii U version will be digital-only. An exclusive Day One Edition will commemorate One Piece's 15th anniversary with DLC costumes (for Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Chopper, Zoro, Usopp, Franky, Robin, and Brook) and an additional quest, while supplies last.
The game allows for up to four players to play together, and players can explore the world of One Piece with their friends. Players can embark on different quests and battle enemies with many of the manga and anime's familiar characters. The game also allows players to fish, catch bugs, hunt for treasure, and more to develop and train their characters. The game features the original character Red (voiced by Masachika Ichimura), the game's nemesis who aims to be the Pirate King. Standing in his way are the Straw Hat Pirates and a new raccoon character named Pat (TARAKO).
Ganbarion developed the "multi action-adventure" title. The game features original characters designed by series' creator Eiichiro Oda, such as Red, Pat, and Yadoya (Rumi Hiiragi).
The game already shipped for Nintendo 3DS in Japan last November, and the other platforms will receive the game in Japan on June 12. It inspired two Nintendo 3DS XL color variants in Japan: Luffy Red and Chopper Pink. The first copies of the game included the download codes for a limited adventure costume of Luffy from One Piece Film Strong World, as well as an additional Marineford quest with Ace as a playable character.
