After original novel inspired TV anime, Yukito Ayatsuji plans monthly series

Yukito Ayatsuji, the author of the horror light novel Another, reported last week that he intends to start serializing a new novel, tentatively titled Another 2, this year. However, he had two story ideas he was still contemplating for the novel. He asked his fans if they want to read a story set in 2001 or 2009.

He then added that the new novel will probably begin serializing "in a certain monthly magazine" this fall, and that it will probably be a 2001 storyline.

Kadokawa Group Publishing printed the original light novel in October of 2009. Yen Press released the novel digitally last year, and plans to publish it in hardcover in October. Ayatsuji already published a sequel novel called Another Episode S last year.

The original novel inspired both a manga series by Hiro Kiyohara (Shisso Holiday) and an anime by P.A. Works with original character designs by Noizi Ito. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for home video in North America, and describes the story:

Mei Misaki was cute, athletic, and one of the most popular girls in her school. Why should a little thing like death change that? Now, twenty-three years after Mei's mysterious demise, a new transfer student discovers that not only is his school's student body one corpse short of a full roster, but that some secrets never leave high school. What's more, all of this may somehow be tied to his own family past.

What is the secret and how does it all connect? And even if Kouichi does figure it out, will that knowledge help save him? As the school bells toll a deadly dirge and students begin to die, things that were never properly buried come back to haunt the high school of the damned!
