Persona 4's Seiji Kishi Helms Assassination Classroom Anime at Lerche

Danganronpa's designer Kazuaki Morita & writer Makoto Uezu adapt Yūsei Matsui's comedy

This year's 31st issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing the staff of the Assassination Classroom television anime on Monday. Seiji Kishi (Persona 4 The Animation, Danganronpa The Animation, Devil Survivor 2 The Animation) is directing the anime at the studio Lerche. Kazuaki Morita (Persona 4 The Animation, Danganronpa The Animation, Arpeggio of Blue Steel) is designing the characters, and Makoto Uezu (Danganronpa The Animation, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Is This a Zombie?, School Days) is writing the scripts. The magazine teases that the voice cast is different from the one in the "Vomic" version of the manga or the 2013 event anime. More details on the cast will be announced later.

Viz Media will publish the first volume of Yūsei Matsui's original Assassination Classroom manga in North America in December. Viz Media describes the story:

A humorous and action-packed story about a class of misfits who are trying to kill their new teacher – an alien octopus with bizarre powers and super strength! The teacher has just destroyed the moon and is threatening to destroy the earth – unless his students can destroy him first. What makes things more complicated is that he's the best teacher they've ever had!

The television anime will air on the Fuji TV station next year.

Matsui launched Assassination Classroom in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2012. The series ranked number seven in Japan's top-selling manga for 2013. The manga is also inspiring a live-action film, and it already inspired an event anime by director Keiji Gotoh (Kiddy Grade, Sengoku Collection, Uta∽Kata) and the studio Brains Base last year. That anime featured Tomokazu Seki as the teacher Korosensei.
