Audition Horror Novel Gets Hollywood Film After Miike's Version

Executive producer Mario Kassar (Terminator, Rambo, Basic Instinct) will adapt Ryu Murakami's Audition novel into a live-action Hollywood film. The new version will change the setting to America and will be directed by Richard Gray (The Lookalike).
In the adaptation, protagonist Sam Davis is a widower living alone with his son seven years after his wife passed away. A filmmaker friend of Sam's convinces him to hold fake auditions to find a new girlfriend. He meets and falls in love with a former ballerina named Evie Lawrence.
Gray adapted the script and is aiming to begin shooting in the fall after completing his current project, Sugar Mountain.
Murakami's novel was previously adapted by director Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Yatterman, Crows Zero, Ace Attorney, Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai) in 1999. Shout! Factory released the film on Blu-ray in North America in 2009. W. W. Norton & Company published the original novel in English.
