New Fafner manga to launch this fall before sequel anime's January premiere

The official Sōkyū no Fafner web radio program announced new cast members for anime studio XEBEC zwei's upcoming Fafner sequel, Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus, on Saturday. The program also announced a new Fafner manga, details on a November 15 special event, and a Niconico Live stream of the first series. The website for Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus then unveiled the first visual:

The sequel's cast will include:

The new manga will launch in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Sirius magazine this fall. A preview screening of Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus will be held at the Maihama Amphitheater, and advance tickets will go on sale at Comic Market 86 (August 15-17). The sequel will also have advance screenings in theaters starting this December.

The second promotional video for the sequel debuted in April:

The narrator in the video says that humanity lives in a peaceful era that was obtained through many sacrifices. He asks what exactly humanity was looking for as they continued to hold the possibility of losing everything. When asked what he plans to do for his career since everyone else has decided, Kazuki Makabe replies that he will learn something, and start to do something, but says that he would be unhappy if that meant he would have to leave something behind. He adds that since the place he lives is where his precious comrades used to be, so he wants to stay there. At the end of the video, the narrator says, “There are two hopes.”

In addition to the newly announced members, the cast will star Makoto Ishii (Shangri-La's Kunihito, Tears to Tiara's Arthur) as Kazuki Makabe, Kohei Kiyasu (The Prince of Tennis' Kaoru, Hajime no Ippo: Rising's Ippo) as Sōshi Minashiro, and Marika Matsumoto (Final Fantasy X's Rikku, Sugar Sugar Rune's Chocolat) as Maya Tōmi.

The planned 26-episode television anime is set in the year 2151, two and a half years after the film Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth. The 10th-anniversary project will reunite the main staff from the first Fafner television series, including director Nobuyoshi Habara at XEBEC zwei and Xebec. Tow Ubukata is writing the project, and King Records' Gou Nakanishi is a producer.
