OVA will be the story of the U-17 Japanese representatives at a training camp

The August issue of Shuiesha's Jump Square magazine is announcing two new cast members for the upcoming Shin Tennis no Ōji-sama (The Prince of Tennis II) original video anime (OVA) on Friday. Mamoru Miyano will play Ryōga Echizen, and Hiroki Yasumoto will play Hōō Byōdōin.

Ryōga Echizen is "the player who brought Byōdōin from abroad. He enjoys teasing Ryōma, but his true abilities are unknown." Hōō Byōdōin is "the No. 1 Japanese U-17 player who has gone to many countries. He has a connection to Tokugawa."

Jump Square announced in June that Junko Minagawa will return as Ryōma Echizen, Daisuke Onowill play Kazuya Tokugawa, Junichi Suwabe will play Keigo Atobe, and Sachiko Nagai will play Seiichi Yukimura.

Director Hideyo Yamamoto is helming the project, and Mitsutaka Hirota is writing the script. Akiharu Ishii, Kenji Irie, and Jun Watanabe are all returning for character designs. Cher Watanabe is composing the music, and Takuya Hiramitsu is serving as sound director. Production I.G and M.S.C. are in charge of animation production.

The OVA will tell the continuation of the 2012 Shin Tennis no Ōji-sama television anime, and will tell the story of Ryōma and the rest of the U-17 Japanese representatives at a training camp.

The original 2012 anime series adapts Takeshi Konomi's original Shin Tennis no Ōji-sama manga, which has been running in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine since 2009. The story begins several months after the national tennis tournament that ended the original Prince of Tennis storyline.

Crunchyroll streamed the anime into several countries as it aired in Japan. Viz Media published the 42nd and final volume of Konomi's original Prince of Tennis manga run in North America in 2011. Konomi reported in January that he will return to Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine this year.
