U.S. cartoon, its anime inspiration to ship together in September

Harmony Gold USA announced on Friday that it will release its 1985 Robotech animated television series with the 1982 Super Dimension Fortress Macross television anime on DVD. Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release Robotech The Classic Collection - Volume 1 exclusively through online retailer Amazon on September 23.

The four-disc DVD set will include the first 18 episodes of both the American broadcast version of Robotech and the original and uncut Japanese version of Super Dimension Fortress Macross with English subtitles. The set will retail at US$19.98.

Robotech is an amalgam of the Genesis Climber Mospeada, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Super Dimension Fortress Macross television anime series. The animated series has inspired several American manga and animated films, a proposed live-action film, and the Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles sequel original animation video. ADV Films and A+E Networks Home Entertainment released the original animated series on DVD in North America.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross launched the Macross mecha science-fiction anime and manga franchise. AnimEigo and ADV Films released the original series on DVD in North America.

Harmony Gold USA is holding a Kickstarter campaign for a new Robotech Academy animated mini-series pilot. The 24-minute pilot will "continue the legacy of the original animated series and bring the Robotech universe to a new generation of anime audiences."
