Project ARMS Creator to Launch New Genma Taisen Manga

Manga artist Kyoichi Nanatsuki (Project ARMS, Samurai Shodown) announced on Twitter on Friday that the Genma Taisen Rebirth manga will launch in Shogakukan's Club Sunday magazine on August 5. Nanatsuki will write the series based on the 1967 classic manga series Genma Taisen (Genma Wars) written by Kazumasa Hirai with art by Shōtarō Ishinomori. Masato Hirase and Pro Ishimori will provide the series' illustrations.

The original manga's story begins with Princess Luna of Transylvania, who has a vision while traveling to America on a goodwill mission. A life form of pure energy named Genma that destroys everything on it's path is heading towards Earth. To save the planet, she must assemble psychics to confront Genma. She partners with an alien cyborg named Vega who once fought this menace before.

The manga inspired a film adaptation in 1983 that Central Park Media released under the title Harmagedon in North America. Media Blasters also released the 2002 Genma Taisen spinoff television anime in North America.
