Scotland Loves Anime 2014 Line-Up Announced

posted on by Andrew Osmond

Scotland Loves Animation announced its line-up for this October's event in GLASGOW and Edinburgh. The films include the new Production I.G period postwar drama Giovanni's Island (pictured), the crime crossover Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie; the computer-animated SF reboot Appleseed Alpha; the videogame adaptation Bayonetta: Bloody Fate; plus Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and the K movie sequel K: Missing Kings.

The first weekend of Scotland Loves Anime will run from October 10 to 13 at the Glasgow Film Theatre; a pass to this weekend is available here (£48 full price, concessions available), and individual tickets are here. Exclusive screenings at GLASGOW include the original Ghost in the Shell film. The weekend will also feature the director of Giovanni's Island, Mizuho Nishikubo. The full GLASGOW line-up is given at the bottom of this article.

The GLASGOW weekend will be followed by screenings at Edinburgh's Filmhouse Cinema from October 13 to 19. Tickets will be available in early September. Exclusive Edinburgh screenings include The Time of Eve and Sword of the Stranger, plus a Mystery film. There will also be a "Studio Bones: Talk Show' event featuring the Edinburgh guest, Masahiko Minami, who is the president of the Bones anime studio. Minami will also deliver a Keynote Talk at the festival's Education Day on October 17 at the Edinburgh College of Art.

Among the films being shown at both GLASGOW and Edinburgh, Production I.G's Annecy-winning hand-animated Giovanni's Island film tells the story of two brothers living on the island of Shikotan. Their family and the people of the island hear of Japan's loss in the war and are told not to worry. However, their island gets caught in the middle of the continuing conflict in the west and is invaded by Russian soldiers. Giovanni's Island received the Satoshi Kon Prize for Excellence in Animation and tied for the Audience Award at the 18th annual Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal earlier this month.

The GLASGOW line-up is confirmed as follows:
