Kill la Kill UK Release Details

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Part 1 released on Blu-ray and DVD on December 8 by Anime Limited

Anime Limited has posted news about its upcoming 'Collector's Edition' release of the first volume of Kill la Kill, as well as images of its package design (see link).

Volume 1 will be released on December 8, carrying the opening 9 episodes, plus clean titles. The box will carry a 188-page 'Keyart and Storyboard book, replicated 100% from the Japanese booklet in their Part 1.'

The Blu-ray edition of Part 1 will have an RRP of £59.99, while the DVD will have an RRP of £49.99. The series will be released in 3 parts.

On the format and pricing, Anime Limited said, 'This isn't just one licensor but the industry is pushing to protect the Japanese market over the last few months especially... Since we're Region B, (we) are a less tasty option for Japanese counter importation – we've tried to find some compromises. For us that meant 2 parts for Kill la Kill wasn't an option and instead we did the following:

- Negotiated three parts instead of 5, allowing us to produce collector's packaging.

- Negotiated a release date not so long after the second part of the US release.

- Managed to set a price point that while higher than a usual product, still gets you the best quality at the best price in current markets... So currently, for £5 more than the standard edition in the USA... you are getting deluxe packaging, content not released outside of Japan and (the series) over fewer sets.'

Re the prospects of a 'standard' edition of the series, Anime Limited said it was 'looking at' the end of 2015.

Kill la Kill was Trigger's first original television anime, reuniting Imaishi (Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt) with head writer Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann, Nodame Cantabile: Finale, Re: Cutie Honey). In addition, acclaimed animator Sushio (animation director on Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, character designer on Engage Planet Kiss Dum) designed the characters.

The story is set at a high school that the student council president Satsuki Kiryūin rules by force. Ryūko Matoi, a transfer student wielding a giant Basami scissors sword, brings about upheaval on the campus.
