Tokyo Ghoul:re Manga to Launch This Month

"Shocking" series to debut one month after 1st manga ended

Sui Ishida is launching the Tokyo Ghoul:re manga series in this year's 46th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on Thursday. The previous issue had teased that Ishida would launch a "shocking new series" in the 46th issue: "The legend has a beginning. If you bear witness to this beginning, it will be a moment you will never forget as long as you live!!"

The suspense horror/dark fantasy story of the first manga is set in Tokyo, which is haunted by mysterious "ghouls" who are devouring humans. People are gripped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight.

Ishida launched the first Tokyo Ghoul manga in Weekly Young Jump in 2011, and ended it in Young Jump on September 18. Shueisha will ship the 14th and final compiled volume on October 17 along with the Tokyo Ghoul [zakki] illustration collection. Ishida mentioned on Twitter last month that an important announcement "might" be uploaded to the Young Jump or Tokyo Ghoul website.

Viz will publish the first manga in North America, and Funimation streamed the first anime season as it aired in Japan this past summer. Weekly Young Jump is also confirming on Thursday that a second season will begin in January.
