Monogatari 'Final Season's' Tsukimonogatari Anime Previewed in Video

Hiroshi Kamiya, Saori Hayami reprise roles in story about Yotsugi premiering December 31 in Japan

Aniplex began streaming a promotional video on Wednesday for Tsukimonogatari (Possession Story), the anime adaptation of the first story in the "Final Season" of NisiOisin's Monogatari Series.

Koyomi: Yotsugi Ononoki is a doll, and if you were to put it another way, she is not a human. She has the appearance of a cute little girl, but she is not a person, not a living being, and not common. With her eccentric speech patterns, she entertains those around her. She is an emotionless child, but her true nature is that of an abnormality, a demon, a monster, and a variety of evil spirits from rivers and mountains. Above all that, she can't help but be in conflict with human society.
Shinobu: No? In fact, this is not the truth, sir. In the case of "her," anyway.
Text: Within youth, words of parting are something that come with the bargain ('Coming with' being a pun on 'possession').

The video confirms that Hiroshi Kamiya and Saori Hayami will reprise their roles as their characters Koyomi Araragi and Yotsugi Ononoki, respectively. Akiyuki Simbo will return as chief director of the anime, while Tomoyuki Itamura will serve as director. The anime will be once again produced at Shaft, and Akio Watanabe will serve as animation director. Fuyashi Tou and Simbo will handle series composition.

All four episodes of Tsukimonogatari will begin running at 10:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve on the Tokyo MX TV station, the BS11 channel, and the niconico service. Aniplex will then release the episodes on two Yotsugi Doll Blu-ray Disc/DVD volumes on February 4 and March 4, 2015.

The Nisio Tsūshin newsletter had reported in 2012 that the anime adaptation of NisiOisin's entire Monogatari novel series has been "officially green-lit." The novels already inspired several previous anime adaptations from director Akiyuki Shinbo and the studio SHAFT. Zoku Owarimonogatari, the last volume for the "Final Season" of the novels, shipped in September with teaser page for "Monogatari Series, Next Season" and "Tsugimonogatari."
