Japanese Box Office, October 25-26

Kin Kyori Renai live-action film stays at #1

The live-action film of Rin Mikimoto's shōjo manga series Kin Kyori Renai (Close Range Love) stayed at #1 in its third weekend. The film stars Tomohisa Yamashita as the tsundere teacher Haruka Sakurai and Nana Komatsu in her debut role as genius high school student Yuni Kururugi. The film also ranked #1 on Box Office Mojo's chart and earned 111,521,862 yen (US$992,938) on 179 screens for a new total of 712,952,854 yen (US$6,347,797).

Eiga HappinessCharge PreCure! Ningyō no Kuni no Ballerina (HappinessCharge PreCure! The Movie: Ballerina of the Country of Dolls) stayed at #5 in its third weekend. Yui Horie, Daisuke Ono, and Toshiyuki Morikawa guest star in a story where the Pretty Cures must save the Doll Kingdom. The film also ranked #5 on Box Office Mojo's chart and earned 59,696,849 yen (US$531,513) on 210 screens for a new total of 335,335,760 yen (US$2,985,672).

Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen), the second of two sequels to the 2012 live-action Rurouni Kenshin film, fell from #4 to #7 in its seventh weekend. The sequels adapt the Kyoto arc of Nobuhiro Watsuki's original manga, with Takeru Satoh returning as Kenshin Himura and Tatsuya Fujiwara (live-action Death Note) playing the antagonist Makoto Shishio. The film ranked #6 on Box Office Mojo's chart and earned 57,410,228 yen (US$511,154) on 335 screens for a total of 4,103,675,957 yen (US$36,537,202).

Stand By Me Doraemon, the 36th Doraemon film and franchise's first CGI film, fell from #8 to #10 in its 12th weekend. Satoshi Tsumabuki, who previously played 30-year-old Nobita in a series of live-action Toyota car commercials, also plays Nobita as a young man in the film. The film ranked #8 on Box Office Mojo's chart and earned 41,633,143 yen (US$370,682) on 345 screens for a new total of 8,358,586,461 yen (US$74,420,925).

The first live-action adaptation of Lupin III in four decades fell from #10 to #12 on Box Office Mojo's chart in its ninth weekend and earned 15,649,156 yen (US$139,333) on 311 screens for a new total of 2,399,504,726 yen (US$21,364,062). The movie stars Shun Oguri as Lupin, Tadanobu Asano as Detective Kōichi Zenigata, Gou Ayanoas Goemon Ishikawa, Tetsuji Tamayama as Daisuke Jigen, and Meisa Kuroki as Fujiko Mine. Jerry Yan (Meteor Garden) of the popular Taiwanese group F4 will play an original character, Lupin's nemesis Michael Lee.
