Awesome Japan's Kickstarter campaign for Plantago Games' mobile role-playing game Soul Knight reached its goal of US$60,000 on Thursday.

The goal of the project is to recreate the "good 'ole JRPG" on a smartphone platform. A turn-based game, Soul Knight will also allow players to play with up to four friends. The game features soldier, wizard, shield knight, archer, and healer classes in a tactical RPG environment.

Awesome Japan launched the project on October 24. As of press time the project has earned US$60,834 with seven days to go.

The campaign has several stretch goals. Starting at US$80,000, the project will add Ninja and Samurai classes, at US$100,000 the developers will add a new stage, and at US$120,000 a raid boss will be added. Other stretch goals include voice acting at US$160,000, development for PC systems at US$250,000, and development for console systems at US$500,000.

The game staff includes game and art director Toshihiko Kojima (Disgaea 4, Disgaea 2, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness Phantom Brave), technical director Hayato Kose (Final Fantasy 13 and 14), sound creator Lemm (Battle Princess of Arcadias), and character designers Teruhiko Imaizumi (Jigsaw World: Daigekitou! Jig-Battle Heroes) Yusuke Matsuda (Foto Showdown), and Noizi Ito (Shakugan no Shana, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). Since launching, the project has added background designer Hiroshi Katō (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Oh! My Goddess).

The game is slated for beta release by January 2015 followed by a full release by February 2015.
