Sket Dance's Shinohara Designs Next Battle Spirits Anime

7th TV anime based on Bandai card game to premiere next spring

The January issue of Shuiesha's Saikyō Jump magazine is announcing on Friday that the next television anime series inspired by Bandai's Battle Spirits card game will premiere next spring. In addition, Sket Dance manga creator Kenta Shinohara is drafting the original character designs for this anime, the seventh television series in the franchise. Saikyō Jump will publish more news about the new anime and a prologue manga in the March issue on February 6.

The last Battle Spirits television anime, Battle Spirits Saikyō Ginga Ultimate Zero, ended in September. Currently, for the first time since 2008, there is no new Battle Spirits anime airing in Japan.

The Battle Spirits anime franchise launched with the 50-episode Battle Spirits: Shōnen Toppa Bashin series on September 7, 2008. The anime adapted Bandai's original trading card game, in which cards represent dragons, demons, birds, insects, and other spirits that the players can control in battles. Bandai imported the game to America in 2009.

The Battle Spirits: Shōnen Gekiha Dan follow-up series premiered on September 13, 2009. Battle Spirits: Brave, the third Battle Spirits television anime series, then debuted in Japan in September of 2010. The fourth series, Battle Spirits: Heroes, launched in September 2011, and the fifth series, Battle Spirits: Sword Eyes, followed in September 2012.

Shinohara ended his Sket Dance manga last year, and the television anime adaptation of the manga ended in 2012.
