50-episode series from 1980-81 starts streaming on Wednesday

Media distribution service Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it began streaming the live-action tokusatsu (special effects) television series Ultraman 80 at 10:00 p.m. EST. All-Access users will be able to watch the whole series immediately, and free users can access 10 new episodes each week, starting with the first 10 now.

The streams are available to users in the United States, Canada, Latin America, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

Crunchyroll describes the series:

Takeshi Yamato, a twenty-two year old young man lives a double life. During the day time, he is a rookie but popular science teacher at a junior high school in Tokyo. But after school and on Sundays he works as a member of the elite UGM (Utility Government Members), an earth defense organization which tackles difficult situations such as alien invasion and attacks from monsters.

When the situation gets out of control, Takeshi transforms into a 50 meter tall mighty warrior, Ultraman 80 and knocks down the most terrifying monster to save the day.

The 50-episode series originally aired in Japan in 1980-81.
