Fairy Tail Manga's Tartaros Arc to End in January

Hiro Mashima's latest story arc to get anime adaptation

This year's seventh issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine is announcing on Wednesday that the 416th chapter of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga will be the final chapter in the Tartaros arc. The 33-page chapter with color opening page will appear in the magazine's following issue on January 21.

The magazine is also announcing that an anime adaptation of the Tartaros arc has been green-lit. The sixth issue announced this week that three different Fairy Tail side-story one-shots are being adapted into episodes in the currently-running anime.

The Tartaros arc began with the manga's 356th chapter in October 2013. The magazine ran three consecutive chapters of the arc with special color opening pages last spring.

Mashima launched Fairy Tail in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2006. The 41st compiled volume shipped in December, and the 42nd book is slated to ship on March 17. Kodansha Comics is releasing the series in North America, and the 45th volume shipped on December 30.

The series inspired a television anime in 2009 that concluded with a "To Be Continued" title card in 2013. The second series began airing in Japan last April, and Crunchyroll and Funimation stream the series as it airs. Funimation is releasing the first series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in North America.
