The video announces that people who attend the film's theater screenings will receive a framed reproduction genga specially illustrated and signed by Knights of Sidonia manga creator Tsutomu Nihei. The genga include serial numbers, and the illustration will change each week of the theatrical screening. The first week's illustration will be the main character Nagate Tanikaze, and the second week's illustration will be the female lead Shizuka Hoshijiro. The distribution of each genga will be limited to 30,000 copies throughout Japan.

The theatrical film version of the first Knights of Sidonia television anime season will open in theaters in Japan on March 6 and run for two weeks. Advance sales of a limited number of the film's Blu-ray Disc release will also go on sale in theaters for 5,000 yen (about US$43) on March 6. Regular sales of the film's Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases will begin on March 25.

A key visual for the film was also released. The text in the poster reads, "The Last Hope can't be let go of."

The film will be a compilation of all 12 episodes of the season with new sequences and redone sound effects. Kobun Shizuno, the director of the first season, is also directing the movie.

The film will be followed by a second TV anime season, Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine, in April.
