Flipnote Studio 3D Released in N. America for Free

Animation application for Nintendo 3DS available via Club Nintendo

Nintendo released the Flipnote Studio 3D animation application at no cost via its Club Nintendo loyalty program on Tuesday. The Club Nintendo loyalty program will be discontinued on June 30 for North America, but new accounts can still be created at no cost until March 31.

Flipnote Studio 3D (Ugoku Memo-chō 3D), released in Japan in 2013, is the successor to Nintendo's earlier Flipnote Studio (Ugoku Memo-chō) for the DSi. Like its predecessor, Flipnote Studio 3D allows the user to create animations frame by frame at varying framerates. New to Flipnote Studio 3D is the ability to make layers for stereoscopic 3D animation.

Users of the Flipnote Hatena online service for DSi can import old animations to Flipnote Studio 3D. Animations can be shared with other Flipnote Studio 3D users over a local wireless connection, or saved to the SD card and uploaded online.
