Tron: Legacy Director Joseph Kosinsky In Talks to Direct Gran Turismo Film

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Adaptation of Sony's racing game franchise originally revealed in 2013

The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog reported on Monday that Oblivion and Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is in talks with Sony to direct a film adaptation of the Gran Turismo racing video game franchise. Sony originally revealed the film project in 2013.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that Columbia Pictures co-president Michael De Luca, Sony Pictures vice president Matt Milam, Dana Brunetti, Josh Bratman, DeVon Franklin, and Elizabeth Cantillon will produce the film. Alex Tse had been slated to write the script, but The Hollywood Reporter states that according to its sources, Kosinski will be developing a new script.

The racing simulation franchise by Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Studios debuted on the original PlayStation console in 1997 and has since sold 70 million copies. The most recent title, Gran Turismo 6, shipped worldwide for the PlayStation 3 in December 2013.

Similarly, Universal Pictures adapted EA Games racing franchise Need for Speed into a film starring Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) last March.
