First light novel volume will be out in October

North American manga and light novel publisher Yen Press announced on Monday that it has licensed the Irregular at Magic High School (Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei) light novel series under its Yen On imprint. The company plans to release the first volume of the light novels in October.

Yen Press also announced that it has the manga, but did not specify which manga.

Tsutomu Satou began writing the novel with character designs and illustrations by Kana Ishida(Aquarion Evol character design) in 2008 under the Dengeki Bunko label, and ASCII Media Works is publishing the 16th volume of the light novel series on May 10.

Dengeki Bunko has published number of spinoff manga, including Mahōka Kōkō no Yūtōsei (Honor student at magic high school), Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Nyūgaku-hen (Matriculation Volume), Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Yonkoma-hen, and Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Tsuioku-hen. Square Enix publishes Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Kyūkōsen-hen and Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Yokohama Sōran-hen.

Aniplex of America licensed the 2014 anime adaptation and describes the story:

This spring, a very peculiar brother and sister enroll as new students. The brother is an underachiever with some deficiencies and enrolls as a “Weed,” while his younger sister is an honor student, who enrolls as a “Bloom.”

The brother, with a somewhat philosophical expression, and the younger sister who holds feelings a little stronger than sibling love for him…

Ever since these two have entered through the gates of this prestigious school, the calm campus was beginning to change...
