Kodansha Adds Ninja Slayer Kills, Cat Diary: Yon & Mu, 3 Persona/SMT Manga

Company also reveals Vinland Saga print plans for volumes 6, 7

North American publisher Kodansha Comics announced at its Anime Boston panel on Saturday that it has licensed the following manga: Kōtarō Sekine's Ninja Slayer Kills, Junji Ito's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu (Itō Junji no Neko Nikki Yon & Mū), Satoru Matsuba's Devil Survivor, Sō Tobita's Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Side: P3, and Mizunomoto's Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Side: P4.

Ninja Slayer Kills runs in Kodansha's Shonen Sirius magazine, and Kodansha will ship the second volume in Japan on April 16.

The Ninja Slayer story was originally posted piecemeal on Twitter by Japanese "translators" Yū Honda and Leika Sugi, allegedly translating the work of American authors "Bradley Bond and Philip Ninj@ Morzez." After the story grew in popularity, Enterbrain published the first Japanese-translated volume in print, Ninja Slayer: Neo Saitama in Flames, in September 2012. Vertical Comics revealed in February that it had licensed the The Ninja Slayer: Machine of Vengeance manga. Funimation will stream the anime adaptation as it airs in Japan this spring.

Horror manga artist Ito (Uzumaki, Gyo) wrote the semi-autobiographical Cat Diary: Yon & Mu comedy manga about a horror manga artist and his fiancé's cats. Kodansha published the single compiled volume in 2009.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Side: P3 and Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Side: P4 both adapt the Nintendo 3DS game Person Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. The former focuses on the protagonist from Persona 3, while the latter features the Persona 4 protagonist as the lead. The two series began in February and January, respectively. Crunchyroll is publishing both manga on its online service.

Satoru Matsuba (WARASIBE) debuted the manga based on the 2009 Nintendo DS game Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor in 2012. Kodansha shipped the fifth volume in December. Atlus USA published the game in North America, and it will also publish the updated port for Nintendo 3DS in May.

Additionally, Kodansha Comics revealed that it will release the sixth omnibus volume of Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga manga in September, and then it will release the seventh omnibus volume in December. The company noted that its license of the series only extends to the end of the seventh omnibus volume, so publication of further volumes will depend on sales of those two books. Kodansha Comics had temporarily suspended its release of the manga in December.

Finally, Kodansha Comics revealed that it will release a special edition of Attack on Titan volume 16 in August 2015, on the same day the regular volume goes on sale. The special edition will include a set of playing cards printed by US Playing Card Company. Each card will include a different piece of full-color art, and the volume will include a variant dust jacket featuring art from an American comics artist. Kodansha Comics will announce the name of the comics artist at another time. The volume will retail for US$19.99.
