Funimation to Stream Ultimate Otaku Teacher Anime

FUNimation Entertainment announced on Saturday that it will stream the Ultimate Otaku Teacher (Denpa Kyōshi - He Is an Ultimate Teacher) television anime and the live-action Japanese drama Love:Redux (Renai Jidai). The company mentioned that it has both streaming and home video rights for Ultimate Otaku Teacher.

The story of Ultimate Otaku Teacher centers around Junichirō, a young man obsessed with manga, anime, and games. He was a young genius who published papers in the journals Nature and Science when he was only 17. However, after graduating college, he became a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) absorbed in his anime blog. Unable to watch Kagami throw away his life, his sister Suzune gets him to work at the Ichō Academy she attends. The head of the school's board, Koyomi Hiiragi, assigns Kagami to his new life as a teacher.

Masato Sato (Case Closed episodes eps 333-504) is directing the series with series scripts by Atsushi Maekawa (Hunter × Hunter, Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie) at A-1 Pictures. Isao Sugimoto (Girls und Panzer, The Qwaser of Stigmata II) is designing the characters and Ryuuichi Takada (Dusk maiden of Amnesia, The IDOLM@STER) is composing the music.

Asakura, Natsukawa, and Amamiya are performing the opening theme "Youthful Dreamer" as the unit "TrySail" and idol group Tokyo Performance Doll (The File of Young Kindaichi Returns) is performing the ending theme.

Takeshi Azuma launched the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in late 2011. The Japanese title of the manga literally means "Electromagnetic-Wave Teacher," a reference to the term denpa-kei for people who act bizarrely, such as extreme otaku. The slang was coined from people who claimed their actions were caused by electromagnetic waves (denpa) they received.

Funimation describes the romance story of Love:Redux:

The meeting. The first date. The infatuation. The wedding. The formula for every great love story. But not for Haru and Riichiro. A fated encounter brought the two together, but after hitting it off and hitching up, their relationship takes a sharp deviation from the standard Love Recipe and the young couple must part ways. What would normally end in yearning and eventual acceptance becomes much more complicated, as the pair continues to indulge in their magnetic connection through karaoke hangs, anniversary dinner dates, and intimate moments. After an ex-lover's spat, they decide enough is enough, and match each other with someone new. But with this much chemistry and history, is parting ways the right decision? Can a failed love be rekindled, or is there life— and love— after the end?

The series, which stars Manami Higa (live-action GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka, Code Blue) and Shinnosuke Mitsushima (live-action Hana-Kimi), premiered on April 2 in Japan. Funimation will reveal the simulcast launch date and time in the future.

Funimation noted that if fans would like to see more Japanese dramas, to watch the simulcast of Love:Redux and give the company feedback. The company added that it won't be shifting focus away from anime, but that it is instead "adding more content for fans of Japanese media."
