Monogatari's NisiOisin, Arakawa Under the Bridge's Nakamura Make Jūni Taisen Novel

"Greatest Battle Royale novel ever" pits 12 warriors against each other

Writer NisiOisin (Monogatari Series, Medaka Box) is collaborating with artist Hikaru Nakamura (Saint Young Men, Arakawa Under the Bridge) on the Jūni Taisen (12 Wars) novel that Shueisha will publish on May 19. The novel's website teases that it is a "story of warriors who kill and are killed."

In this "greatest Battle Royale novel ever," 12 warriors fight with each other's lives and pride at stake, all to grant just one wish. NisiOisin is penning the novel with illustrations by Nakamura.

NisiOisin and Nakamura already collaborated on the one-shot manga "Dōshitemo Kanaetai Tatta Hitotsu no Negai to Wari to Sōdemonai 99 no Negai" (The only wish I want granted by all means is comparable to 99 wishes) in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in January.

NisiOisin wrote the Monogatari series of light novels that inspired several anime projects. His Katanagatari novel project also inspired a television anime series, and his Medaka Box manga with artist Akira Akatsuki spawned two television anime seasons.

Nakamura has been serializing her Arakawa Under the Bridge manga in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine since 2004, and she has been serializing her Saint Young Men manga in Kodansha's Morning 2 magazine since 2006. She did take a break from both manga for her maternity leave in 2011, but has since returned. Both manga inspired anime, and Arakawa Under the Bridge also inspired a live-action television series and film.
