Fate Is #1 Franchise in Collective CD, Book, Video Sales for March

Assassination Classroom, AKB48 drama take #2, #3

Media statistics company Oricon posted a chart on Thursday of the top franchises in Japan in terms of cumulative CD, book, and video sales for the month of March. The Fate series topped the list, earning 1,536.5 million yen (about US$12.7 million).

The Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works limited edition Blu-ray box set shipped in Japan on March 25, contributing to this total.

Assassination Classroom ranked second with 1,202.9 million yen (about US$10.0 million), followed by Majisuka Gakuen, a television drama starring members of the AKB48 idol group, with 1,192.0 million yen (about US$9.9 million).

The top 20 franchises for March 2015 were:

  5. One Piece
  6. Tokyo Ghoul
  7. Digimon Series

  20. 24, starring Kiefer Sutherland

Oricon also publishes a weekly ranking every Thursday. One Piece, Gintama, and Nisekoi topped the chart for the second week of April.
