New York Comic Con to Host Naruto Creator Masashi Kishimoto

Manga creator attends October event after he ends main series, starts spinoff

Viz Media's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Tuesday that Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto will come to New York Comic Con this year. He will take part in two panels on October 8 and 10, as well as multiple autograph sessions during the October 8-11 convention at the Javits Center in New York City. In addition, he will appear at autograph sessions at Kinokuniya Bookstore and Barnes & Noble during New York Super Week (October 5-11).

Kishimoto ended the main Naruto manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in November after 15 years of serialization. However, he has since launched the spinoff mini-series Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring (Naruto Gaiden: Nanadaime Hokage to Akairo no Hanatsuzuki) about the next Konoha generation in April. Boruto -Naruto the Movie-, the upcoming film sequel to the Naruto manga and The Last -Naruto the Movie-, will open in August.

Kishimoto had said in an interview in November that he will still have other work left to do in the Naruto franchise until this summer, so he will not begin preparing his next non-Naruto title in earnest until after that.
