Crunchyroll Adds DNA2 Anime to Catalog

Site adds Dallos, more territories for Gunslinger Stratos, 1st 2 seasons of UtaPri, Kinmoza!

Media distribution site Crunchyroll revealed on Friday that it is adding the DNA² television anime and OVA to its catalog. Crunchyroll's stream of both the dubbed and subtitled versions is available now to premium users in the U.S. and Canada. Free users in the same regions can watch the first five episodes now, with additional episodes to be available in the following weeks.

Discotek revealed in 2013 that it had licensed the series, and it shipped the DVD with all 15 English-dubbed and English-subtitled episodes in June 2014.

The television anime of the DNA² manga by Masakazu Katsura (Video Girl Ai, I''s) aired in 1994. There was also a three-episode DNA² original video anime project in 1995. Central Park Media released the entire series in 2003 on DVD and described the story:

Junta has a problem. He's deathly allergic to girls! All this changes when a beautiful woman arrives from the future and transforms him into the super-suave Mega-Playboy. But the transformation is unstable, and if Junta can't unravel the time traveler's mystery, he (and the fate of the world) will never be the same!

Crunchyroll also revealed on Thursday that it has expanded its territories for its Gunslinger Stratos stream to include Asia. Additionally, the Uta no Prince Sama and Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 2000% is available in the same territories as the third season: the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The first season of Kinmoza! has also expanded its territories to match the second season: the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Crunchyroll had revealed earlier this month that it is now streaming 1983 OVA Dallos to its catalog. All four episodes of the OVA are now available for Crunchyroll members in the U.S. and Canada.

Dallos is recognized as the first anime OVA released.

Crunchyroll describes the story:

Shun Nonomura is a young man out of Monopolis, a sprawling miner's colony on the lunar surface. His people mine helium-3 and other essentials for Earth, but in the late 21st century, Earth's resources are depleted and the planetary government has resorted to authoritarian rule to get what they want. As the put-upon miners - including Shun's own family and friends - start to organize a revolt, they come under attack from Earth's new lunar commander: Alex Rigel, a military man unafraid to use force to put down the uprising.

As Shun's idealism and Alex's chilly pragmatism clash, Monopolis is thrown into chaos. The last, best hope for victory lies within a mysterious alien artifact that the lunarians worship as a god: Dallos!

The series is also available streaming on Hulu. Discotek released the OVA on DVD in 2014.
