Fire Emblem Fates English Trailer Unveils 2016 Release

Game to ship as Fire Emblem if in Japan this month

Nintendo began streaming an English trailer for Fire Enblem Fates (Fire Emblem if) at its E3 press conference on Tuesday. The video reveals the English title and announces that the game's western release is slated for 2016.

In the story, the kingdoms of Hoshido and Nohr are at war. The protagonist is a child from the Hoshido royal family who was raised by the Nohr royal family, and the player must choose where their loyalties lie.

The physical edition will ship in Japan in two different versions, Byakuya Ōkoku (White Night Kingdom) and Anya Ōkoku (Dark Night Kingdom), each following one of the two choices. The digital edition will have the option of choosing either path at the game's sixth chapter. This option can be added to either of the two physical editions as a DLC for an extra 2,000 yen (about US$17).

Byakuya Ōkoku is the easier version, allowing players to earn experience and money outside of the main scenario.

The games are scheduled for release in Japan on June 25. Both physical editions and the digital edition will retail for 4,700 yen (about US$39) each. A special edition with a third scenario, artbook, and TCG card will ship for 9,250 yen (about US$77). The downloadable third scenario will also be available for the other editions for 2,000 yen.

The game is being developed by Intelligent Systems with character designs by Yuusuke Kozaki, and also features a story by Shin Kibayashi, the author who provided the original idea for the Kindaichi Case Files manga.
