Tōken Ranbu Game Gets Stage Play, Musical Adaptations

Game franchise also gets 4-panel manga adaptation starting in July

Japanese game developer DMM announced on Monday that Marvelous and Nelke Planning will adapt DMM's Tōken Ranbu online browser game into both a stage play and a stage musical.

Marvelous (Yowamushi Pedal stage play) will adapt the game into a "straight play," while Nelke Planning (The Prince of Tennis, Vampire Knight musicals) will adapt it into a stage musical.

Each company will announce more details about its respective adaptations in the future.

The Tōken Ranbu "sword personification training game" takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen. Nitroplus designed the characters and scenario. The game launched in Japan this year, and it has more than 1 million users. The game has acquired a large female fanbase and inspired a wide range of merchandise.

The July issue of Monthly Bushiroad magazine also revealed earlier this month that the game is a four-panel manga anthology starting in the magazine's August issue on July 8. Kikuyarō is drawing the manga.

DMM previously released games that turned Japanese World War II warships into girls for Kantai Collection and power tools and construction vehicles into girls for Ore Tower ~Over Legend Endless Tower~.
