Funimation, Universal Pictures Enter Distribution Agreement

Universal Pictures will handle distribution for all Funimation shows

FUNimation Entertainment and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) announced on Tuesday that the two companies have entered a multi-year agreement in which UPHE will manage distribution of all Funimation DVD and Blu-ray releases.

Funimation executive vice president and chief operating officer Mike DuBoise stated that the agreement will "create greater scale and opportunities for us across our physical distribution business." He also said that it will allow Funimation to focus on acquiring and co-producing shows, developing its digital distribution platform, and marketing its brands.

DuBoise previously worked for UPHE (then Universal Studios Home Entertainment) as senior vice president of strategic customer marketing before joining Funimation in 2013.

Funimation has licensed some of the anime produced by NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, the Japanese branch of Universal Pictures' parent company Universal Studios. These include Rage of Bahamut Genesis, Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign, and The Heroic Legend of Arslan.
