Overlord Fantasy RPG TV Anime's 2nd Promo Reveals July 7 Premiere

Show's opening theme "Clattanoia" previewed in promo video

The official website of the TV anime adaptation of Kugane Maruyama's Overlord fantasy light novel series began streaming the anime's second promotional video on Friday. The video confirms the anime's July 7 premiere, and previews the show's opening theme "Clattanoia" by OxT.

The video narrates the premise of the anime's story, beginning with the once-popular online game "Yggdrasil" shutting down. One player, Momonga, became someone who "surpassed death."

The anime will premiere on the channel AT-X on July 7 at 11:00 p.m., and will then air on the Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and TV Aichi channels on July 8. The first episode will also air on the BS 11 channel on July 9.

Media Factory previously streamed the first promotional video for the anime in March.

The story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.

Satoshi Hino (Log Horizon's Isaac, Yowapeda's Hayato Shinkai, Bakuman.'s Akito Takagi) is returning from the drama CDs to star as the protagonist Momonga. Emiri Katō, Yumi Hara, and Sumire Uesaka are also returning to their roles as Aura Bella Fiore, Albedo, and Shalltear Bloodfallen, respectively. Additionally, Kenta Miyake will play Cocytus, Manami Numakura will play Narberal Gamma, Masayuki Katō will play Demiurge, Shigeru Chiba will play Sebas Tian, and Yumi Uchiyama will play Mare Bello Fiore.

Naoyuki Itou (Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu; Digimon: Data Squad) is directing the series at MADHOUSE. Yukie Sugawara (Sword Art Online, Nanana's Buried Treasure, The irregular at magic high school) is in charge of the series' scripts, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Hunter × Hunter, Trigun, Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch) is adapting the character designs.

Kugane Maruyama began the original light novel series online in 2010, and Kadokawa's Enterbrain imprint then published it in print with illustrations by so-bin in 2012. Kadokawa will release the ninth novel on June 29. The first manga volume shipped on June 26.
