Husband charged with murder of Cardfight!! Vanguard actress

CTV News Calgary reported on Sunday that Calgary police had found the remains of actress and voice actress Shannon Burgess (née Madill) on Friday, July 3. Shannon had been reported missing since November 2014. Police located her body in the home she shared with her husband, Joshua Burgess, in Calgary, Alberta in Canada.

Joshua is in custody and has been charged with one count of second degree murder in relation to the investigation of Shannon's death.

Shannon played the role of Reiji Uno in the Cardfight!! Vanguard: Link Joker Hen television anime series. She also worked as a performance artist and standup comedian.

Commenting on what led Calgary police to find the body, Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the CPS Homicide Unit stated that it was part of the investigation. "It wasn't a tip," he said. "As the investigation progressed it rapidly transitioned from a missing persons investigation into a homicide investigation.”

Staff Sergeant Chisholm also stated, "There was no history of domestic conflict, domestic violence, whatsoever in that relationship."

A family spokesman said the couple was separated and still living together, but a family friend told The Calgary Herald, "It was just bumps in the road, it wasn't really anything. They weren't going through a divorce or anything like that."

Shannon did not arrive at a scheduled meeting with her brother at StageWest on November 30, 2014, and was reported missing by her family the next day.

Shannon was 25 years old at the time of her disappearance.

Thanks to Geoffrey for the news tip.
